Sedona Prince, once a prominent figure in women's college basketball and an advocate for gender equity in sports, went undrafted in the 2025 WNBA Draft amid multiple allegations of intimate partner violence and sexual misconduct.
A Promising Career Overshadowed
Prince, a 6-foot-7 center, had a standout season at Texas Christian University (TCU), averaging 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and three blocks per game, earning All-Big 12 honors. Her performance positioned her as a strong candidate for the WNBA Draft. However, she was not among the 16 players invited to attend the draft in person, and ultimately, no team selected her during the 38-pick event held in Manhattan. ESPN reported that the allegations against her influenced teams' decisions during the draft.
Allegations and Legal Proceedings
Since 2019, several women have accused Prince of various forms of abuse. In January 2025, Prince and a former partner filed police reports alleging mutual assault, though no charges were filed. In 2024, another ex-partner, Olivia Stabile, posted a series of TikTok videos accusing Prince of abusive behavior during a vacation in Mexico. Additionally, a 2022 lawsuit alleged that Prince forcibly kissed and groped a woman after a date; the lawsuit was later withdrawn.
Prince has denied all allegations through her attorney, stating that she has never abused anyone and attributing the accusations to individuals seeking social media attention. TCU did not suspend Prince during these proceedings.
Despite her athletic prowess, the serious nature of the allegations and the surrounding publicity appear to have significantly impacted her draft prospects. As the WNBA season approaches, it remains uncertain whether Prince will secure a position as an undrafted free agent.
