The WNFC: Game Changer In Women's Sports

The Women's National Football Conference (WNFC) is a pioneering semi-professional tackle football league dedicated to advancing equity for women in sports. Established in 2018 by Odessa "OJ" Jenkins, a former U.S. National Tackle Women's Football team member, the WNFC aims to provide women athletes with the recognition, respect, and opportunities traditionally reserved for their male counterparts.

Mission and Growth

The WNFC's mission is to accelerate financial equity for women through the power of football, reshaping the landscape of sports and entertainment by demonstrating that women belong on the field, at the table, and in leadership. Since its inaugural season in 2019, the league has expanded significantly, boasting 17 teams nationwide and plans for strategic growth.

Recent Developments

In 2025, the WNFC welcomed three new teams: the Chicago Winds, the Atlanta Truth, and the Jersey Shore Wave. The Chicago Winds and Jersey Shore Wave debuted with a game at the University of Chicago’s Stagg Field. The Atlanta Truth was introduced to honor Atlanta's legacy in social justice, with the team's name reflecting the city's historic leadership in the fight for equality.

Fostering Equity in Sports

The WNFC is committed to dismantling barriers and creating equitable opportunities for women in football. Through initiatives like "Got Her Back," the league empowers young girls by providing mentorship and resources, addressing challenges such as low body confidence that lead to high dropout rates in sports. Additionally, the WNFC's partnership with beauty brand Dove through the Body Confident Sport program aims to help girls feel comfortable, confident, and empowered to participate in sports.

By establishing a professional platform for women in tackle football, the WNFC not only showcases athletic excellence but also challenges societal norms, paving the way for future generations of women athletes to receive the recognition and compensation they deserve.
