In a significant move to bolster their championship aspirations, the New York Liberty have acquired veteran guard Natasha Cloud from the Connecticut Sun. The Liberty sent the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and a future first-round pick in 2026 to the Sun in exchange for Cloud.
Cloud, entering her 10th WNBA season, is renowned for her defensive tenacity and playmaking abilities. She averaged 11.5 points per game with the Phoenix Mercury in 2024 before being traded to the Sun in February. Over her nine-year career, Cloud has averaged 8.6 points, 5.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1 steal per game, and was a key contributor to the Washington Mystics 2019 championship run.
Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We could not be more excited to welcome Natasha Cloud to the New York Liberty family. Tash is someone who we identified years ago as a prime fit for our team and embodies everything we look for in a player.”
The Liberty, who clinched their first WNBA title last season, aim to reinforce their roster for a title defense. Cloud joins a star-studded lineup featuring Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones, addressing the team’s need for a strong perimeter defender and additional playmaking depth.
For the Sun, this trade signifies a strategic move to accumulate valuable draft assets as they embark on a rebuilding phase. The team now holds both the No. 7 and No. 8 picks in the upcoming draft, positioning them to infuse young talent into their roster following the departure of several key players this offseason.
